The German stopper played a huge part in the Terriers promotion to the Premier League last season making 42 appearances.
However, the 27-year-old has been one of the casualties of boss David Wagner’s summer recruitment and has made just one league outing this term.
He has not been able to break up first-choice defensive pairing of Christopher Schindler and Mathias Jorgensen.
Hefele was fault for Birmingahm City’s equaliser at the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday and was quick to apologise to his team-mates.
He said: “The first half we played very well and created some chances and we should have won the game 1-0.
