Leicester to fine Riyad Mahrez £200,000 for training no-show after failed Manchester City move on deadline day
Algerian winger was subject of a massive bid from Pep Guardiola's Premier League leaders on deadline day
LEICESTER are set to fine Riyad Mahrez £200,000 after the winger failed to turn up to training in the wake of his failed deadline day move to Manchester City.
The Algerian submitted a transfer request on Wednesday after Pep Guardiola launched a £65million bid for his signature.
However, Leicester had no plans to cash in and ended up demanding closer to £100m.
City pulled the plug on the deal, with Guardiola admitting he’d rather wait until the summer and land Mahrez for a cheaper fee.
But that hasn’t stopped the player from claiming he’s been left “very depressed” by Leicester’s decision.
And the Foxes were forced to train a man down after Mahrez went AWOL on Thursday morning.
He will now be hit with a heavy fine, and Claude Puel will be hoping to reincorporate the midfielder as quickly as possible.
Mahrez felt he should have been granted a move to the Etihad after helping Leicester win the title two years ago before securing their top-flight status in the last campaign.
SUMMER LOVING Guardiola hints he will move for Mahrez again
The Foxes have since sold both Danny Drinkwater and N’Golo Kante to Chelsea.
And after trying to force through an exit last summer, Mahrez could well be entering his final few months as a Leicester player.
