SPORTING LISBON have reportedly turned down a £40million bid from Chinese Super League outfit Tianjin Quanjian for star midfielder William Carvalho.
Portuguese outlet claims Sporting are looking to resist offers from the Far East as they aim to keep pace with rivals Porto and Benfica in the title race.
Carvalho was targeted by West Ham last summer and came close to joining the east Londoners.
However, the two clubs couldn’t agree on a transfer fee.
And it led to astronomical fallout between club chiefs, with both sides accusing the other of a lack of respect.
West Ham and Sporting have since patched up their differences, with Hammers boss David Moyes believes to remain keen on striking a deal in the next transfer window.
Everton have also been linked with Carvalho, who has been capped 40 times by Portugal.
The 25-year-old operates primarily as an anchorman and helped his country win the Euros in 2016.

Chinese side Tianjin had been hoping to lure him abroad with a big contract offer before their transfer window closed.
But it appears Carvalho will be staying put until the summer, which is sure to give the likes of West Ham and Everton a huge boost.
