West Brom loanee Daniel Sturridge’s World Cup dream is still alive with hamstring injury keeping him out for just two weeks
Fans were fearing the worst but Alan Pardew claims ace will be back in a fortnight as Baggies look for goals to beat the drop
DANIEL STURRIDGE’S World Cup dream is still alive after the striker was ruled out for just two weeks with a hamstring injury.
The West Brom ace, 28, was forced off the pitch just a few minutes into Monday’s 3-0 defeat by Chelsea.
Sturridge joined the Baggies on a six-month loan deal from Liverpool last month in search of first-team football and, ultimately, a spot in England’s squad for this summer’s World Cup.
But there were fears that Sturridge could be facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after he pulled up early at Stamford Bridge.
However, West Brom fans can breathe a sigh of relief after boss Alan Pardew revealed Sturridge should be back by the end of February.
He said: “We need him up and running as it’s goals we’ve struggled with.
“He felt his hamstring after a 60 metre sprint in the first moments of the game.
“We’ll have to nurse him. He won’t play next week but hopefully the week after.”

The pressure for goals at the Hawthorns will now fall solely on Salomon Rondon’s shoulders again.
The Baggies have scored the second-least amount of goals this season and sit rock-bottom of the league, five points off 19th-place Stoke.
