ROY HODGSON'S image as a gentleman manager has suffered a seven-year hitch - after footage emerged of an incredible F-word outburst in 2011.

The Crystal Palace boss was in charge of West Brom at the time when he stunned a reporter by ranting, “There wasn’t a f***ing penalty in the whole game."

Some social media users tried to claim the video was new.

But in fact the clip has re-emerged from old Match of the Day recordings.

Hodgson, who went on to manage England from 2012 to 2016, is seen losing his cool in a way few will recognise from his usual public persona.

Quizzed over a penalty incident following the Baggies' 2-1 home win over Bolton, the former Liverpool chief threatened to quit the interview.

The shocked reporter quickly changes tack to ask him: “Roy, so a satisfying day at the office?”

Hodgson responded: “Yeah, I thought we played very well.”

Old sponsorship deals in the background give the game away over the age of the video.

And luckily for Hodgson the spot-kick he was so angry about did not concede the match to Bolton.

Zoltan Gera's clumsy challenge on Fabrice Muamba enabled Trotters' striker Ivan Klasnic to hit a temporary penalty equaliser.

But Jerome Thomas and Shane Long struck either side of that to give Hodgson's Baggies a 2-1 Premier League win.

Hodgson's conduct on and off the field in 42 years as a manager has made the 70-year-old one of Europe's most-respected coaches.

Great success came with Switzerland, Inter Milan and Fulham, as well as West Brom, who he left for the Three Lions job.

If managing England was the highlight of Hodgson's career, the final game of his reign was the lowpoint.

Losing 2-1 to Iceland in the last 16 of Euro 2016 is one of the three Lions' worst ever moments.

But Hodgson was never seen then as annoyed as in this video from 2011.
