Man City fans turn FA Cup defeat to Wigan ugly by throwing advertising hoardings, seats and bottles onto pitch

UGLY scenes marred Wigan's FA Cup triumph as Manchester City fans threw missiles at police.

Ins shameful scenes angry City fans launched advertising boards, seats and bottles at police as they were held in the away section at full-time.

Some fans rushed onto the pitch as Wigan celebrated another famous Cup win against the Citizens, with Sergio Aguero spotted lashing out at one supporter.

A section of City fans then hurled objects as police formed a cordon around them, as some Wigan supporters flipped birdies and throw objects towards them at the DW Stadium.

Dozens of City supporters surged to the front of the stands and taunted police, with incredible snaps showing advertising boards flying towards police.

One fan reached to grab a police baton, with another scuffling with an officer at the front of the stand.

City plan to discuss the post-match invasion with Wigan over the next few days.

Sources insist they want answers as to how their players can be put at risk by so many being able to get onto the pitch.

Pep Guardiola insisted he had not seen the Aguero incident, claiming merely: “I was in the locker room, I didn’t see it.”

Wigan chief Paul Cook was also keen to play it down, adding: “I haven’t seen these incidents so rather wouldn’t comment.

“But the conversation about the game shouldn’t be about that - it’s a great night for Wigan Athletic.”

Yet Wigan chairman David Sharpe admitted it had taken something of the gloss off the League One side’s incredible night.

Sharpe said: “It is not nice to see. Football is emotional, it is what it does to fans, but I don't like to see this at the end of the game.

“It is a massive result, but we have to stay classy in football, I don't like what I am seeing here.”

Both clubs are likely to face FA action, with after their managers also involved in a bust-up sparked by Fabian Delph's red-card tackle on Max Power.

Guardiola and Cook clashed on the sidelines before continuing their row in the tunnel at half-time.
