SERGIO AGUERO swung his arm at a fan and had to be held back in an amazing skirmish on the pitch after Wigan dumped Manchester City out of the FA Cup.
The Man City striker was confronted by one of the hundreds of supporters - who broke the law in running onto the pitch - at the DW Stadium.
A pitch invader confronted the striker first, sparking Aguero's furious reaction.
The striker was then restrained as fans and players also grabbed other supporters in angry clashes.
The FA appear certain to investigate a number of incidents at the game, with managers Pep Guardiola and Paul Cook clashing in the tunnel at half-time and fans on both sides misbehaving.
Aguero could be in serious trouble if football chiefs decide there is enough evidence to pursue a charge.
It rounded off a dreadful night for City as the Premier League leaders saw their quadruple dream ended by League One's third-placed side.
Will Grigg brilliantly punished Kyle Walker's mistake on 79 minutes to earn one of the greatest ever FA Cup upsets.
Social media was quick to react to Aguero's flare-up - mainly with shock but occasionally with sympathy or even mocking the incident.
Some fans predicted a lengthy ban for City's record scorer, 29.
But one supporter tweeted: "I actually feel for Aguero there. There 4-5 odd thousand Wigan fans around him! You never know what the fan did or said!"

Etihad chief Pep Guardiola even denied Aguero had been involved in a serious clash.
Asked about it moments after the 1-0 fifth-round defeat, Guardiola said: "Nothing happened."
City, though, might regret a defiant photo of their dejected players that they tweeted at around the same time.
Presumably unaware of the Aguero controversy, the caption read: "We’ll keep on fighting.”
