Craig Bellamy set to accept Oxford job and take first step in management
Former Liverpool and Cardiff striker has been in talks with the League One strugglers for a couple of weeks and has been offered an attractive contract
CRAIG BELLAMY is ready to accept the Oxford United job and make his first step in management.
The Welshman has been talking to the League One strugglers for a couple of weeks and is now poised to accept an attractive contract.
Bellamy, 38, has been working as a TV pundit and formed a friendship with Sky’s David Jones who also works for Oxford.
He is poised to say yes to the post and may even be in the dug-out for the first time at the weekend.
The much-travelled striker had a fiery reputation as a player, falling out with managers at various times, but he has shown willingness to step on to the touchlines as a gaffer himself.
Oxford are happy to give a younger boss a chance and Bellamy is likely to be given senior assistance by current caretaker Derek Fazackerley.
The ex-Cardiff captain was linked with the Wales job before Ryan Giggs took the helm.
Bellamy won 78 caps for his country, scoring 19 goals.
