Rio Ferdinand bid amazing £10million to save struggling non-league side Dulwich Hamlet
RIO FERDINAND made a bid of around £10million to rescue non-league crisis club Dulwich Hamlet, according to reports.
claim the former Manchester United and West Ham defender tried to buy the Champion Hill ground.
But property developers Meadow Residential, who own the land, rejected it and want over £13m.
Ferdinand, 39, is embarking on a new boxing career and is trying to fight the corner for friend Gavin Rose who is the Dulwich manager.
The ex-QPR man is from nearby Peckham and has trained with the Bostik Premier side since leaving the professional game.
The club is stuck in the middle of a bitter row between Meadow Residential and Southwark Council.
The developers want to build an £80million project but the council have blocked the build as there is not enough affordable housing in the plans.
Ferdinand owns affordable housing company Legacy Foundation with Bobby Zamora and Mark Noble and they met with Meadow on December 12 last year.

Since talks between the council and the land owners broke down, Meadow have withdrawn their funding for the grassroots club, leaving players fearing for their future.
Gavin Rees told : “They’ve got real-life situations where if they don’t get paid, it could lead to problems with their rent, mortgage or nursery fees for their kids, money that they have obviously budgeted for with their Dulwich salaries.
“For me, as the manager, not knowing the answer is a hard position. It leaves a bitter taste.”
