ANGRY Antonio Conte branded his Chelsea team ‘immature’ as their Champions League qualification hopes took a big hit at Old Trafford.
The Italian’s job hangs by a thread after his side sunk to fifth in the wake of a third league defeat in four games.
And he was not happy his players did not have the nous to control the game after leading 1-0.
Conte said: “We must be disappointed. We had a good chance to get three points against a competitor for a place in the Champions League.
“But at the end we are talking about another defeat. When you have these situations, you have to manage the game better and, with experience, with maturity, get three points.
“Instead another time we are talking about a loss.”
Champions Chelsea have now lost seven league games this term and are 19 points behind runaway leaders Manchester City.
And Conte grimly admitted they could now finish outside the top four. He said: “This could be a possibility, for sure.
“We know there is a battle to find a place in the Champions League.
“This country is the only championship where six teams fight to win the title and for a place in the Champions League.”
The game had been billed as a clash between Conte and United boss Jose Mourinho but the pair shook hands before and after the game.
Conte said: “You wanted to see the shake hands and we did. Stop. It’s over.”
Mourinho added: “The handshake doesn’t need any words. That is what me and Antonio want to show to everyone.”
Conte called for Video Assistant Referee (VAR) to be implemented in the Prem after Alvaro Morata had a goal ruled out for offside on 85 minutes.
He said: “This type of situation can change the result and I am very positive to introduce VAR, especially in England.
“We need this to help the referee avoid mistakes. There are a lot of moments where there are things to super-check.”
