Dortmund fear losing out on permanent deal for Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi because of fine form

Batshuayi has made a big impression since making loan switch to Bundesliga and seems certain to be sold by Chelsea at the end of the season

BORUSSIA DORTMUND fear their hopes of a permanent deal for Michy Batshuayi could be scuppered - because he is playing too well.

Batshuayi joined Dortmund on transfer deadline day on a loan deal until the end of the season.

The Belgian ace was surplus to requirements at Chelsea as they desperately tried to push through a deal to sign Olivier Giroud from Arsenal.

And the Bundesliga club had hoped they could make the move more long-term this summer if he settled in well in Germany.

But the say Dortmund are growing increasingly concerned about their prospects of being able to tie Batshuayi down to a permanent move.

Since leaving Chelsea, the 24-year-old has scored five goals in five games to display the kind of finishing ability that saw the Blues fork out £30million to sign him from Marseille in 2016.

Were Chelsea wrong to let goal-machine Michy Batshuayi leave?

Such form has suddenly caught the attention of other sides across Europe, who are now showing interest themselves in securing a summer deal.

The situation at Chelsea means it is growing increasingly likely that Batshuayi will be on his way out this summer no matter how well he does at Dortmund.

And Dortmund have admitted they were unable to persuade Chelsea to agree to a clause for a permanent deal before they secured his loan switch last month.

Dortmund's sporting director Michael Zorc says the recent good form of the striker has not helped their chances.

Zorc said: "The situation hasn't changed since his signing, and certainly not to our advantage.

"He has become even more interesting to others."

Dortmund's problem will come if other clubs show an interest, resulting in Chelsea being able to ask for an inflated fee for Batshuayi.

His lack of goals and opportunities at Stamford Bridge had meant it seemed unlikely they would be able to make any profit on the money they paid to sign him.

But if he continues to thrive as he has done in Germany, he would become a far greater asset and the Blues could look at increasing their valuation to about £40m.
