He was even selected ahead of £89million record-signing Paul Pogba for last week’s Champions League clash in Sevilla.

Two more run-outs against Huddersfield and Chelsea have seen him nominated for United’s player of the month — alongside David De Gea and Romelu Lukaku.

After their 2-1 comeback win over Chelsea on Sunday, Matic, 29, said: “He is amazing.

“He is 21 and to play like that and control the game like that is impressive. He will be a big player for Manchester United.

McTominay’s dazzling displays have also led to an international tug-of-war, with England and Scotland eyeing up the midfielder — the Lancaster-born player has Scottish ancestry through his grandparents.
