Gold was spotted leaving the game early, which he explained was for "security" reasons.

But as he left the car park, the co-owner stopped his vehicle to speak with several travelling supporters.

A video of the clash quickly went viral on social media, and showed Gold asking the angry fans to calm down.

He said: "I'm 82-years-old.

"You don't understand. I'm hurting as much as you."

The irate West Ham followers then hurled several swear words back at the chief.

DOWN AND OUT Hammers star Winston Reid rushed to hospital

And there were also numerous shouts for him to "leave the club";.

There has been a huge breakdown between West Ham's owners and supporters this season, with many claiming that Gold and co-chairman David Sullivan have failed to keep several promises.

A protest had been arranged for next weekend's home clash with Burnley at the London Stadium.

It was due to be aimed at both chiefs and vice-chairman Karren Brady.

But the planned-protest was called off on Thursday.

West Ham remain deep in the relegation mix after goals from Ki Sung-yueng, Mike van der Hoorn, Andy King and Jordan Ayew condemned them to their latest setback.

Michail Antonio's late consolation did little to ease the pressure on a miserable afternoon that also saw key defender Winston Reid rushed to hospital after he was knocked unconscious.

Hammers boss David Moyes hailed the performance as ";embarrassing" and admitted it was "impossible to assess".

He said: "The fans travelled through the snow to get here and we let them down badly.

"We had no intensity in our play, we thought we could just stroll about.";
