report that his brother and representative, Yannick, has met with United chiefs on several occasions.

And there is an offer on the table from Old Trafford worth upwards of £150,000-a-week.

The report claims a United scout has been at the Nou Camp two out of every three matches to watch Umtiti's development — with Ed Woodward present for Atletico Madrid's visit on Sunday.

However, the centre-back is merely using the offer on the table to negotiate a better deal with Barcelona.

Umtiti has spoken to international team-mates Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial, bit has already opened talks over a renewal.

His current deal sees him earn just under £70,000-a-week, and he wants Barcelona to match what United are offering.

The central defender has become a mainstay in Ernesto Valverde's backline, and they would be loathe to let him leave.

He joined in the summer of 2016 for £22m.
