Liverpool confident of world record £40million deal to land Stoke keeper Jack Butland

LIVERPOOL fancy their chances of landing Stoke keeper Jack Butland for a record-busting £40million, according to reports.

Despite the Potters awful season, Butland has still been impressive and is in line to be England’s No.1 at the World Cup in Russia.

claim the 24-year-old is keen on a move to Anfield and link up with Jurgen Klopp instead of joining Arsenal.

The Potters seem resigned to losing Butland but will demand Liverpool make him the most expensive keeper in the world if they are serious about doing business.

The £40m quoted would smash the £34.7m Manchester City shelled out for Ederson from Benfica last year.

And perhaps more significantly eclipses the £30m Everton paid Sunderland for Jordan Pickford.

Klopp has also been keeping an eye on Roma’s Brazilian stopper Alisson.

But the German has gone with Butland’s Premier League experience as a key ingredient for a new keeper next season.

Neither Simon Mignolet of Loris Karius have convinced Klopp either of them are the long-term answer to the Merseysider's goalkeeping problems.

Karius has displaced Mignolet as first choice, the Belgian has not played since the FA Cup loss at home to West Brom in January.

The 24-year-old German is expected to remain at Anfield as back up to Butland while Mignolet is set to be sold.

Butland who faces Manchester City tomorrow night at the bet365 Stadium will in the summer swap a relegation scrap for a hunt for trophies.
