Jamie Carragher suspended from Sky Sports until end of season for spitting
Cops are looking to quiz Carragher, 40, who could face six month behind bars over the incident
JAMIE Carragher has been suspended from his £1million-a-year Sky Sports role until the end of the season after his spitting shame.
The ex-England ace was filmed spitting through the window of his Range Rover towards a 14-year-old girl and her dad.
It happened as the Monday Night Football pundit was being goaded in the aftermath of Liverpool's 2-1 defeat to Manchester United on Saturday.
Cops are looking to quiz Carragher, 40, who could face six month behind bars.
The former Liverpool star was forced to watch the vile video as he issued a grovelling apology on live television on Monday.
And today Sky Sports bosses announced he will be suspended from his pundit role.
A spokesman for the broadcaster said: "Following an internal review, Sky has suspended Jamie Carragher for the remainder of the football season.
"Jamie has taken full responsibility for what has happened and we will ensure he gets the help he needs to guarantee something like this never happens again.
"Before the start of the next season we will sit down with Jamie to discuss whether he is ready to return to his role."
United fan Andy goaded Carragher over Saturday's result, saying "2-1, 2-1, unlucky Jamie lad" while laughing and filming him.
Carragher was forced to watch the shocking footage live on Sky News and issued a grovelling public apology on Monday.
He said: "I have no excuse. My biggest regret is for the 14-year-old girl to be caught in the middle of this, my altercation with the father."
Asked if he deserves to keep his job, he replied: "There's no doubt what I have done is disgusting, I'm getting vilified and rightly so.
"I would hope five seconds of madness will not take over everything of what I've done - I don't feel like that's a real representation of me."
The former Liverpool defender tweeted another apology after Sky announced details of his suspension.
Carragher wrote: "I have already said I take responsibility for what happened.
"It was a moment of madness and I’m going to speak to the relevant people to ensure something like this never happens again.
"Again apologies all round.
It came after Mr Hughes urged Sky Sports bosses not to sack the former Liverpool defender.
He told the Mirror: "We wanted an apology and an explanation. He seems contrite.
"Everyone makes mistakes, we are all human."
The schoolgirl, who was caught in the crossfire, said: "I have never been spat at by anyone before. I thought, ‘Why has he done that’.
"I thought I had done something wrong.

The incident took place near Manchester United's Old Trafford ground after Carragher watched his former side Liverpool lose 2-1 on Saturday.
The AA has also said Mr Hughes should be sent on a drivers awareness course and had put other road users at risk.
President Edmund King said of the incident: "It is a serious offence to use a hand-held phone at the wheel which one driver certainly seems to be doing. The tactical display from both drivers, on attack and in defence, is diabolical."
