But Dutch paper HLN are claiming the North London club will try and cash in on the defender in the summer.

Talks between Alderweireld, 29, and Spurs chiefs have broken down over disagreements on how much the wages should be.

His current deal has the option of a one-year extension and means he is under contract until 2020.

But there is also a £25m release clause that will be activated in the summer of 2019 for the centre-back who has struggled with injury this season.
