Former England manager's issues with the club's hierarchy are blamed for the rift rather than poor form

FABIO CAPELLO has quit Chinese Super League club Jiangsu Suning after just three matches of the season.

His departure further fuels speculation that the ex-England boss is the front-runner to replace Arsene Wenger at Arsenal.

Capello, 71, took over at Jiangsu in June 2017 and helped the club avoid relegation, eventually leading them to a 12th-place finish in the 16-team top flight.

Suning won one and lost twice in their opening three CSL matches this time around.

But reports suggest that issues with the club's hierarchy rather than their early form is behind Capello's exit.

Jiangsu confirmed that Capello has departed, writing on the club's official website:

"After friendly negotiations between the two sides, the contract between Fabio Capello and Suning Football Club has ended early and Mr. Capello will no longer serve as head coach.

"Mr. Capello will continue to co-operate with Suning Soccer and use his professional advice and suggestions to help Suning Soccer have a better future.

A trophy-laden coaching career has seen Capello win domestic titles in Italy and Spain. He also led AC Milan to the 1993-94 Champions League.

Now his Far East exit has instantly seen him installed as one of the front-runners for the Gunners' job with Ladbrokes.

Spokesman Alex Apati said: "It's a new name in the mix but, at 9/1, we're far from writing Capello off when it comes to Arsenal replacing Wenger."
