EVERTON are reportedly in a bitter row with axed boss Ronald Koeman after it emerged they are still paying part of his wages despite him taking charge of the Dutch national side.

Koeman was one of the top-flights best-paid managers on £6m-a-year before he was sacked by the Toffees in October.

He did not have to wait long to get back into the game as he was appointed his country’s new head coach last month.

The ex-Southampton chief’s salary has since emerged, and he is pocketing less than 10 per cent of the figure he was earning at Goodison Park.

And the claim that under the terms negotiated following his dismissal, Everton are still paying him to make up the shortfall.

The report also claims that the Merseyside outfit are infuriated by this and are seeking legal action.

It is the second sting in the tail for Everton after axing a manager with Koeman’s predecessor netting a payment of more than £10m when they decided to get rid of him in 2016.

Lawyers thrashed it out in order to try and reduce that stunning compo package, but a clause in his contract ruled that he was entitled to be paid the remaining three years of his contract.

That would have added up to an amount near £12m, but after an independent hearing in London, a settlement was reached between £10 and £12m.

Now it looks like Koeman’s representatives managed to net a similar package for the 55-year-old as the Toffees continue to fork out the difference between the wage he was on and his new earnings.

Goodison powerbrokers were suspicious when they discovered Koeman was earning only slightly more than Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill.

And Austria’s Marcel Koller is on twice as much.

Koeman's deal at Everton still had 16 months to run at the time of his sacking.
