Alvaro Morata is latest Chelsea star to feel Antonio Conte’s wrath – despite Spanish striker netting two in last two matches
Italian believes former Juventus and Real Madrid striker should deliver more than 14 goals he has scored this term
ALVARO MORATA is the latest star to feel the heat under Antonio Conte.
The hardline Chelsea boss wants more out of the Spanish striker, who cost the club a record £65million last summer and who has scored 14 goals in his debut season.
Even so Conte believes Morata, 25, should be delivering on a more consistent basis.
There is a feeling in the camp the former Real Madrid man does not make football his priority — a big no-no for Conte who claims he works 24 hours a day.
Morata has suffered a back injury and endured a barren spell this season as he battles to adapt to the physical punishment of English football and the heavy fixture load.
He has scored in each of his last two games but also went through a 13-game goalless run from December to March in which the frustrated striker was booked five times and sent off.
Morata was left out of the Spain squad for the most recent round of international games in a further blow.
Defenders David Luiz and Gary Cahill have also found themselves on the wrong end of Conte’s uncompromising management style.
Luiz was frozen out after a row with the Italian chief in a team tactics meeting and is now recovering from injury.
Club captain Cahill has been dropped in favour of German Antonio Rudiger and has started only one game since February 16.
