ANDER HERRERA insists he is "mortified" by accusations he deliberately spat on the Manchester City crest during half-time of the derby.
Footage emerged showing the Manchester United midfielder's act after Saturday's dramatic 3-2 win.
Herrera, 28, was called "disgraceful" by some fans while others actually praised him.
But a United spokesperson said: "Ander has seen the footage of the incident and is mortified at any suggestion that his actions were deliberate.
"It was entirely accidental and there was no intent whatsoever."
The FA could review footage of the incident to decide whether any action should be taken.
City have no plans to lodge a complaint, according to .
Cameras showed Spaniard Herrera lower his head as he passes over the crest.
The United player, who is by himself, walks behind City's Ilkay Gundogan and Fernandinho.
United were 2-0 down at half-time but Paul Pogba's quickfire double got them level.
