SERGIO AGUERO was caught by Ashley Young with a sliding tackle late in Manchester United's 3-2 win over Manchester City.

And Pep Guardiola is clearly still bristling over that incident - and the derby day loss.

For when asked if Young's tackle on Aguero might rule his hitman out of Tuesday's Champions League showdown with Liverpool, Guardiola replied sarcastically: "He was diving."

Virtually the whole of the Etihad, millions watching on TV and matchday analysts were convinced Young should have conceded a penalty - and been sent off.

A spot kick would have given City the chance to pull level at 3-3, and Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville said:

"It's a bad challenge from Young. He follows through with his right leg into the shin of Aguero.

"It's not just a penalty, it is close to being a red card as well. United have got away with one there.

"Young is lucky. Guardiola has every right to be incensed."

On Tuesday City must now attempt to pull back Liverpool's 3-0 Champions League quarter-final, first leg lead.

But, apart from worrying about Aguero's fitness and abilty to pull back a goal or two, Guardiola has admitted that he may alter his defensive set up.

Should Manchester United man Ashley Young's tackle on Sergio Aguero have been a penalty?

The Catalan coach went with Vincent Kompany and Nicolas Otamendi for both games, but he is now tempted to bring in either John Stones or Aymeric Laporte.

He said: "Maybe, I have an idea what we have to do, what the guys are going to do.

"But in the case of Nico, when a player does what he has done, all we can do is to be close to him because Nico is not just a huge quality but a huge mentality.

"It's true the third goal [against United] he has to defend his back, but we are here in the quarter-finals and 13 points in front in the Premier League and Nico is an important reason why."
