FORMER Celtic striker Lassad Nouioui has suffered a cardiac arrest in training at current club Toledo, according to reports in Spain.

The response from players and staff, and a call to emergency services after he collapsed, were understood to be key in saving his life.

Former Tunisia international Lassad, 32, is currently in intensive care and will be held for 48 hours for further tests.

Third-tier Toledo were due were face Real Madrid Castilla (Real Madrid's B team) tomorrow, but have requested the match be suspended.

Lassad only joined the Spanish side in January, following a year as a free agent.

Born in Marseille, he started his career in France, making his professional debut for Ajaccio in 2004.

He got his first big move when he joined Deportivo La Coruna in 2009, only for them to be relegated two years later.

However, his 18 goals in the Segunda B helped them get promotion.

The striker signed for Celtic in 2012, where he spent a year before being released, scoring three goals in 19 games and winning the Scottish title.

Lassad then spent time in Portugal, Japan and Tunisia before returning to Spain with Toledo.
