Michy Batshuayi carried off pitch on a stretcher with ankle injury in huge World Cup scare for Belgium
On-loan Chelsea striker went down in the 92nd minute of Dortmund's 2-0 defeat away at Schalke
MICHY BATSHUAYI could be out of the World Cup after he was taken off the pitch on a stretcher with a suspected ankle injury today.
The on-loan Chelsea man was carried off in the 92nd minute during Borussia Dortmund's 2-0 away defeat to Schalke.
The Belgian has proved a huge hit since signing on loan with the German giants in January, scoring nine goals in 13 appearances in all competitions.
But this injury setback could spell disaster for the 24-year-old's World Cup dreams in Russia.
Batshuayi remained grounded after being tackled from behind by former Spurs man Benjamin Stambouli in the dying moments of the Bundesliga clash.
He immediately raised his hand into the air to signal for medical help, as did opposition defender Naldo.
As he was carried off the pitch, the striker had his hands over his face, in some obvious pain.
The game was all over when Batshuayi suffered his injury, as goals from Yevhen Konoplyanka and Naldo had bagged Schalke the points.
It means Dortmund sit in fourth spot in the Bundesliga, level on 51 points with third-placed Bayer Leverkusen and a huge 14 points behind leaders Bayern Munich.
