Accrington Stanley clinch promotion to League One for first time in history after 2-0 victory over Yeovil Town
Billy Kee's brace seals 2-0 win to fire them into the third tier to spark wild celebrations
BILLY KEE ensured it was burgers all round as Stanley sealed promotion into League One on a night to truly relish.
The striker chipped in with two goals in as many minutes to shake up Yeovil and extended the Reds’ unbeaten run to 14 games.
And it meant club owner Andy Holt would again be digging deep to keep his promise of giving the players £200 for “McDonald’s or the like” when they win.
With a top-three finish in the bag, the party began at the final whistle as boss John Coleman celebrated guiding Accrington, who have the second-lowest budget in the Football League and one of the smallest crowds, into League One for the first time in their history.
Kee, 27, has talked openly about his struggles with depression and admits he would not be playing football were it not for Coleman, whom he calls ‘more a friend than a manager’.
And he repaid his boss by firing his 24th and 25th goals of the season.
Yeovil had started well and it was home keeper Aaron Chapman who pulled off a stunning save to keep out Rhys Browne.
But Kee headed home Sean McConville’s 26th-minute corner.

Then, on Accrington’s next attack, a Jordan Clark effort was fumbled by keeper Jonny Maddison and Kee pounced.
Stanley bossed proceedings after the break as their nerves settled. Kayden Jackson came close, while McConville hit the woodwork with a chip.
Kee was on the hunt for his hat-trick but was denied several times by Maddison.
But it mattered little as Stanley were left enjoying their greatest achievement yet after a 27th win of the season.
