Arsene Wenger ‘recommends Patrick Vieira to be next Arsenal manager to the board who are split down middle’

Gunners legend Vieira has been tipped to take over by his former boss

ARSENE WENGER is reported to have recommended that Patrick Vieira succeeds him at Arsenal.

But, according to beINSPORTS, the Gunners board are split on who should take over from the Frenchman after he announced that he will stand down at the end of the season following 22 years at the helm.

Vieira, 41, has emerged as a contender for the role following two years of experience as a frontline boss after taking over MLS side New York City in 2016.

And Wenger publicly backed Vieira yesterday when quizzed about whether he had what it takes to boss the Premier League giants.

Wenger said: "He’s a guy who has the potential one day, yes.

“I’ve followed his managerial career. I think he does very well.

“But overall, after that, this Premier League is special, you know. You have to come in.

“There are plenty of former players who played here who have potential and the intelligence and the knowledge to do it.

Vieira won three Premier League titles under Wenger, 68, and is now in third season as manager of New York City FC following a spell in charge of youth development at Manchester City.
