Chelsea manager Antonio Conte loses out on Italy job after demanding five-year contract

Blues chief would only consider a long-term deal for his nation as he believes he would have a massive rebuild on his hands

Antonio Conte will only take over at Italy if he is given an unlikely five-year deal

ANTONIO CONTE will only quit Chelsea to take over as Italy boss if the Azzurri offer him a five-year contract.

The Blues chief, 48, would only consider a long-term deal to take over the reins of the Italian national team as he believes he would have a massive rebuild on his hands.

Conte now appears to have talked himself out of the running for the Italy job, with Carlo Ancelotti the new favourite, according to The Times.

Chelsea supremo Conte left his post as Italy manager two years ago to take over in West London.

After winning the Premier League in his debut season, he has struggled in his second term, with the Blues fifth in the top flight.

With pressure mounting on Conte, the Italian has been keen to return to his former role with Italy.

However, after demanding a five-year deal - at least - the Italian Football Federation have told him he will not be offered the role.

The Federcalcio are now desperate to land another ex-Chelsea boss, with Ancelotti their No1 target.

Meanwhile, Conte says it's wrong to say Chelsea made a mistake selling Mohamed Salah because of how much the star improved at Roma.

The Blues boss said: "It's not so simple. We have to compare Salah of four or five years ago, and not this Salah now."
