Arsenal star Mesut Ozil reveals back injury kept him out of Burnley clash but hopes to be fit for World Cup
Gunners playmaker missed Arsene Wenger's final home clash of the season and is out for the rest of the campaign with a back injury
MESUT OZIL won't play for Arsenal again this season as he targets a World Cup return.
The Germany international revealed a back injury kept him out of Arsene Wenger's last ever home match against Burnley on Sunday.
Ozil, 29, confirmed his injury on Twitter while also paying his respects to boss Wenger.
He said: "It's a pity I missed yesterday's match with my back injury. It'll need some time but I'm sure I'll fully recover in time for the World Cup.
"Once again I'd like to thank our boss. It was an honour playing for you, Mon. Wenger!
"Thanks for all the memories we shared together."
Ozil was heavily criticised by fans and pundits in his last outing against Atletico Madrid, where the Gunners crashed out of the Europa League.
It led to club favourite Martin Keown predicting that Ozil will miss the rest of the campaign with an "emotional breakdown."
Before the Burnley win he said: "I bet he doesn't play again this season. He'll have some emotional breakdown and he won't be able to play at the weekend.
"I don't know how many illnesses he's had this season — but the fella is not kidding me!"
Arsenal travel to Leicester on Wednesday before taking on Huddersfield in Wenger bring an end to his 22-years at the club.
