Wayne Rooney to make decision over future after Sam Allardyce’s fate is decided amid interest from DC United

Everton star puts future on hold as he waits to see if Big Sam or potentially his replacement wants him to stay at Goodison Park

WAYNE ROONEY will wait until Everton’s managerial position is sorted out before deciding on his own future.

Rooney, 32, has been linked with a move to DC United in the MLS in a deal that would see his bumper £300,000-a-week salary being paid by three clubs.

But the former England and Manchester United superstar will put talks on hold while he sees if Sam Allardyce or a new Goodison Park boss wants him to stay.

Rooney wants to stay with his boyhood team but will seek assurances from whoever is in charge that he is part of their plans.

Allardyce’s future is uncertain with many Everton fans wanting the former England boss axed.

He has moved them up the Premier League to mid-table safety but supporters are unhappy with the style of play.

Rooney turned down big-money offers from other MLS teams as well as lucrative deals in China 12 months ago.

The DC United deal would see United continue to subsidise his wages - £10million a year as they have done at Everton - whilst the Toffees will also contribute £50,000-a-week.

It has to be said Rooney's romantic return to Merseyside last summer has hardly been a success.

He hasn't scored for 18 matches, the last of his 11 goals coming at the back end of last year.

DC United are rooted to the bottom of the MLS and are desperate to add a touch of class to their campaign.

Whatever happens at Goodison, Rooney can't move to the US before July 1 when the MLS transfer window reopens.

It is understood wife Coleen and their four kids would move with him.
