Manchester United legend Gary Neville questions whether Scott McTominay is good enough to be a Red Devils midfielder
The 43-year-old has criticised the Scotland international's passing, and believes he is better suited as a centre-back under Jose Mourinho
GARY NEVILLE has questioned whether Scott McTominay has the qualities to be a top-class midfielder for Manchester United.
The 21-year-old is yet to score or register an assist in 21 games for the Red Devils this season, leading Neville to doubt whether the Scottish international is good enough.
Speaking to Sky Sports following United's 0-0 draw with West Ham, the former right-back was critical of McTominay's passing abilities.
The 43-year-old said: "He said: "Pogba has fallen short in terms of quality [this season], far too inconsistent.
"McTominay, when I watch him, I’m not sure he’s actually good enough on the ball to be a Man United midfield player.
"I do think he’s the type that it’s good for him to play games in there."
Neville then went on to claim that McTominay could flourish as a central defender at Old Trafford, given his impressive physical stature.
He added: "But I do wonder whether if actually he’s got more of a position at centre-back eventually, the physicality that he has. He’s a big lad.
