Salford City appoint ex-Scunthorpe boss Graham Alexander as new boss with Gary Neville and Class of 92 looking to reach Football League
Ambitious non-league side drafted in former Scotland international after exit of joint-managers Bernard Morley and Anthony Johnson
SALFORD CITY have appointed Graham Alexander as their new boss.
The ambitious non-league side moved quickly to replace joint-managers Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley who left last week after promotion to the National league.
The 46-year-old brings a wealth of experience to the club with spells in charge of Preston, Fleetwood Town and Scunthorpe.
Alexander, who won 40 Scotland caps, has signed a four-year deal with next season's National League newcomers after being sacked by the Iron in March.
Salford are owned by Manchester United’s “Class of 92” including, Gary Neville, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs.
The former Scotland international said he was impressed with the club’s ambition.

He told the : “During my first meeting with Chris and then later with Gary I was immediately impressed by the scale of the ambition this club and the owners have.
“It has made rapid progress over the last four years and I am delighted they have asked myself and Chris (Lucketti) to spearhead the next stage of the club’s development.
As a manager you have to look for certain aspects of what can be achieved at a new club and the possibilities here are boundless.
“There is a great deal of work to be done on and off the pitch to fulfil the potential of Salford City and I can’t wait to get started."
Gary Neville said: “After what happened last week we had to react quickly.
“Sporting director, Chris Casper, led the process and when he made the club aware of the opportunity to secure someone of Graham’s experience and credibility we moved decisively.
“We have acquired the highest quality of manager in Graham to continue the great work that has been done over the last four seasons.
“We have had stability at this club and we now look forward to a new chapter with Graham, who has accepted a four year deal at SCFC”
