Stoke want David Moyes as new manager to lead Championship promotion challenge
Relegated Potters believe Moyes is the ideal man to replace Paul Lambert and rebuild the squad at the Bet365 Stadium after relegation and are ready to make move following his departure from West Ham
STOKE want David Moyes to be their new manager to lead them back into the Premier League.
Paul Lambert has today been axed by the Potters after four months in charge having failed to stop the club being relegated from the top flight.
And the man they want to oversea a major rebuilding project and return them to the top flight is former West Ham boss Moyes.
The Stoke board are aware they are facing an exodus of their best players over the course of the summer and they will need to start from scratch next season.
And SunSport understands they believe the best way to go about delivering success is to appoint a manager and give him time to build a new-look squad capable of growing over the next two or three years.
The one name that is top of their wanted list to carry out such an overhaul is Moyes - because of the job he did when he was in charge of Everton.
His success at Goodison Park, when he was able to build a capable squad which improved year-on-year, is seen as the model Stoke owner Peter Coates wants to follow.
And now he is available after West Ham decided to ditch him earlier this week, Coates is now prepared to make his move to convince the 55-year-old they should be his next club.
Moyes is only just starting to gather his thoughts after leaving the London Stadium despite leading the Hammers to safety.
The ex-Manchester United boss believed he had deserved the chance to build on his work in East London but was left fuming at his treatment when the club started interviewing potential replacements.

Though the Scot was not popular among the West Ham fans unhappy at a lack of entertainment, his performances within the game have been recognised as being good in difficult circumstances.
And the challenge at Stoke will be just as big, with whoever comes in to replace Lambert facing a huge overhaul of the playing staff.
Several of their best players are likely to leave the club this summer, with Xherdan Shaqiri having a relegation clause that allows him to go for £12million.
England goalkeeper Jack Butland is another who is sure to be picked off by Premier League sides, while midfielder Joe Allen is already in demand.
The Stoke board are aware they cannot expect a quick fix and just paper over the cracks - which is why they want a manager who has a proven track record for building an improving squad.
But they would still have to convince Moyes his next move should be dropping into the Championship.
