Wolves to land Raul Jimenez on season-long loan deal from Benfica with £30m option to buy

WOLVES are reportedly set to clinch a loan deal for Mexican striker Raul Jimenez – and have a £30million option to buy him from Benfica.

The newly-promoted Premier League side are said to have agreed a deal to pay the Portuguese club £4.5m for Jimenez's services next season.

They will also fork out around £900,000 towards paying the 27-year-old's wages over the period.

Portuguese newspaper say Wolves have taken advantage of their close relationship with agent Jorge Mendes, who represents the World Cup-bound hitman as well as Wolves stars Ivan Cavaleiro and Helder Costa.

And Mendes could be due another windfall if Jimenez, capped 63 times by Mexico, impresses enough to earn a permanent move.

Everton were last summer linked with a move for Jimenez - who was also on the radar of Liverpool and West Ham.

The player appeared open to a Prem move at the time, saying: ";The Premier League is a great championship, but you have to wait.

"I don't close any doors and we'll see what happens."

Benfica’s record signing joined from Atletico Madrid for £18.9m in 2015.

But he started just six times in the Portuguese league last season, making 27 appearances from the bench.

He was on course to sign for West Ham when he left the Rojiblancos, but allegedly overslept and missed his medical.

However, it was also suggested Mendes was not keen on Jimenez moving to East London at that time.

Jimenez is in contention to start Mexico's opening World Cup match with Germany is Moscow on Saturday.

He could then face South Korea and in his national's remaining Group D clashes.
