Tottenham will host Liverpool in blockbuster first home clash at new stadium
Spurs's first 'home' fixture would be against Fulham but delays to new White Hart Lane will see that game played at Wembley
SPURS will host Liverpool in a blockbuster first home clash at their new stadium.
Tottenham - who played their home games at Wembley last season - yesterday asked the Premier League to let them play their first home match of next season at Wembley.
A Tottenham statement this morning confirmed that will happen.
Their first 'home' fixture in the new list is down as Fulham on August 18.
But that will now be played at the Home of Football meaning Jurgen Klopp's side will be the first to visit the new White Hart Lane on September 15.
Boss Mauricio Pochettino said: "We are so excited to have the date of the first Premier League match at our new stadium.
"We discussed the timings and the ability to play away games and I think it is a good solution to have an earlier home game.
"Wembley was great for us last season and we are even more used to that than we are the new stadium."
Chairman Daniel Levy said: "I am absolutely delighted to announce the date of our first match in our new home.
"Our fans have been hugely supportive and this has been much appreciated during a challenging but momentous time.

"We had always intended to request a few games away at the start of the season. The Coaching staff were keen to place a home game within the early fixtures so we shall have one home game at Wembley."
Spurs had hoped to move into their new £750million in time for the start of the 2018/19 campaign.
But the club say an "operational test event" will take place at the new stadium on the weekend of August 18/19.
Pochettino added: "We are excited about the season ahead and making the new stadium our new home.
"I have stood inside the bowl and I know the atmosphere will be unbelievable – it will be well worth the wait."
