Ex-Liverpool ace Jon Flanagan undergoing Rangers medical as he joins up with Steven Gerrard at pre-season training camp

The former England international looks set to sign for the Scottish outfit, following Liverpool release and will be reunited with former team-mate

JON FLANAGAN is having a medical at Rangers, following his release from Liverpool.

The defender is closing in on a reunion with former Reds team-mate and current Gers boss Steven Gerrard.

Flanagan would become the seventh summer signing at Ibrox and is expected to link up with the team in their pre-season camp in Spain, as per the

The 25-year-old right-back was released by Liverpool earlier this month, after rising through their academy.

But, Flanagan will now once again link up with Gerrard, who played together for the Reds prior to the latter's departure from the Anfield outfit in 2015.

He was confirmed in May as Rangers new boss, his first senior managerial position, and has already raided his former club with midfielder Ovie Ejaria joining on a season long loan.

Flanagan will hoping to start afresh in Scotland, following his Liverpool departure and failed loan spells at Burnley and Bolton.

The defender was an integral part of the Merseyside club during their Premier League title challenge four years ago, making 23 starts as they finished second behind Manchester City.

His performances that season ultimately led to him winning his sole England cap in a friendly against Ecuador.

But after suffering injuries and a series of off-field problems, Flanagan was unable to regain his form and is now closing in on a move north of the border.
