Layun stood out in the 1-0 triumph over the defending champions, prompting Arsenal to reportedly make contact over his availability.

The 29-year-old can play as a right-back and be used across the midfield with a remit to go forward.

He spent last season on loan at Sevilla but the Spanish side are reportedly set to decide against making the move permanent.

That has opened the door for Unai Emery to see if they can land him.

The new Emirates boss has moved quickly to bolster his defence since taking over from Arsene Wenger.

Juventus' Stephan Lichtsteiner has come in on a free.

And Borussia Dortmund's Sokratis Papastathopoulos will join next month.

Layun carries a tiny fee in today's market but that could increase after his showing in Russia.

On top of that, Freiburg defender Caglar Soyuncu has issued a come-and-get-me plea to Arsenal chiefs.

The Turkey international could not have been more clear when talking about what he wants to happen this summer.

Speaking to Gunes, Soyuncu said: "I hope I go to Arsenal.

"I really want to play in the Premier League, but everything depends on the team. I have a contract [at Freiburg] for three more years."
