New Rams gaffer faces stiff competition from Celtic and Birmingham City for the Scotland international's signature

The Rams chief has been active during his time working as a TV pundit at the World Cup and is hoping to persuade McGinn to come to the English Championship.

McGinn has strong Celtic connections and a sale to the Glasgow giants is still on, but Lampard wants to go all of the way in the pursuit.

Birmingham City have also joined the chase and would find the cash for the highly-rated player who seems set to leave Neil Lennon's club.

Meanwhile Lamps revealed to SunSport how he is still haunted by regret about his three World Cups as a player but wants the chance to manage the Three Lions in the future.

Southgate's had a good World Cup already - Lampard

He said: "World Cups you set out to win. I played in three. The first two, when I was a main player, the groups were difficult, we got knocked out in the quarter-finals.

“I don’t think you should enjoy a World Cup that doesn’t go brilliantly. I was honoured I played in them but enjoyment comes with winning games and we didn’t win enough.

“I wouldn’t rule it out (managing England). It’s my country, I’m patriotic. But I would love to gain experience at different levels before taking it on.

“It’s a huge responsibility and it’s a different way of working, where you don’t work with players every day."
