Sporting Lisbon set to sack Sinisa Mihajlovic after just EIGHT days with club in chaos following player exodus

SPORTING LISBON are set to sack manager Sinisa Mihajlovic after just EIGHT days, according to reports.

The Serbian boss, 49, who served as Roberto Mancini's right-hand man during his stint in charge of Inter, signed a three-year deal just last week.

But claim he is already on the brink of being axed with the troubled Portuguese club descending further into chaos.

Under-fire president Bruno de Carvalho was removed from his post after a majority of the club's paying members voted him out.

Some 71 per cent of the nearly 15,000 votes cast wanted him axed.

And therein lies the reason for the anger and discontent behind Mihajlovic's situation.

He was brought in by de Carvalho and it is believed the management committee, headed by Sousa Cintra, want to revoke his appointment.

It looks like Sporting will be spared having to pay a hefty severance package to Mihajlovic, though.

He was going to be paid £1.7million a year but it is reported that he is still within his 15-day trial period.

Sporting are in a state of utter destruction that shows little sign of abating. It was just last month that 50 thugs are said to have attacked players at training.

Already nine players have decided to leave the club - including the likes of Rui Patricio, captain William Carvalho, Bas Dost and Gelson Martins.

A new president will not be named until September 8 when new elections will be held.
