MANCHESTER UNITED and Arsenal reportedly lead the chase for ex-Sporting Lisbon star William Carvalho.

Portuguese daily Record claims the anchorman could be heading to the Premier League this summer after cancelling his Sporting contract.

Carvalho was amongst a number of players attacked by furious fans at the club’s training ground following their failure to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

He has now terminated his current deal after seeing the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Gelson Martins Rui Patricio and Bas Dost depart for nothing – with new manager Sinisa Mihajlovic also sensationally sacked after just nine days at the helm.

And Carvalho could now be picked up by one of England’s big boys after he’s done shielding Portugal’s defence at the World Cup.

United have long been linked with the ace, who would be able to link up with compatriot Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, new Arsenal boss Unai Emery is working with limited funds and would jump at the chance to sign a player of Carvalho’s quality for nothing.

However, there are plenty of other interest parties too, including Monaco, Atletico Madrid, AC Milan, Marseille and Porto.

The report adds West Ham are sure to try for Carvalho again after they failed to land him last summer – leading to an infamous bust-up between their owners and Sporting’s.

Premier League newboys Wolves could also look to use their Portuguese connections to tempt Carvalho to the Midlands, weeks after signing teammate Patricio.
