WAYNE ROONEY has confirmed wife Coleen and their four boys will move to Washington with him as he begins his time at MLS side DC United.

The Premier League legend, 33, said the American capital was the perfect place to bring up his brood.

He said: "I think this is a great place to bring my family. I came over and had a look around.

"I had been here before but came over to see it first hand and it seemed like the right place my family could move over and have a nice upbringing.

"I've been to Los Angeles and New York and it's too hectic for me. I've never fancied going to live in London. I need my own space to get away from things.

"Washington gave me the opportunity to do that."

DC United and England legend Wayne Rooney mobbed in Washington as he moves to MLS

Coleen, 32, married Wayne in June 2008 and she is mum to boys Kai, eight, Klay, five, Kit, two and baby Cass Mac, who was born in February.

She was said to be "really keen" on joining her man in the States after he left hometown club Everton.

Coleen has not yet been in the States with Wayne, who was mobbed by fans when he arrived in Washington last Thursday and has had July 2 officially named Wayne Rooney Day.

Wayne was found to be three times the limit when arrested - he had 104 micrograms of alcohol in his breath, the legal limit in the UK is 35 micrograms.

Meanwhile, the former England skipper and record goalscorer admitted he was panicking over being able to breathe in the stifling American heat.

Temperatures have been hitting 37C with humidity at around 44 per cent.

Asked about the summer weather, Wayne said: "It's OK. It's hot. I was concerned whether it would be difficult to breathe in the humidity. It's been hot but it's been OK so far."
