As revealed by SunSport, United have been putting together a £250million plan to re-sign the Portuguese forward.

Jose Mourinho has a poor relationship with Ronaldo, which is being considered by United chief executive Ed Woodward.

Ronaldo's £50m-a-year-before-tax wages are not seen as a problem by the Old Trafford hierarchy given the commercial revenue that could be raked in through shirt sales and more sponsorship deals.

Juve, however, could be stretched to pay Ronaldo's wages.

If they were able to get the deal done, United could bank a payment of £2.64m because they signed him as an 18-year-old and therefore qualify for training compensation under Fifa's transfer rules.

For every year that Ronaldo trained with United between the age of 18 to 23, the club will net 0.5 per cent of the transfer fee.

His first club Sporting Lisbon would also earn £1.32m.

Jorge Mendes has hinted that Ronaldo could be on his way after he was quoted in the Portuguese press as saying goodbyes are on the cards.

The 33-year-old's agent said Ronaldo would be "eternally grateful" to Real if he ends up leaving the European champions.

He insisted that Ronaldo would be thankful to "the club, the president, the directors, the medical staff, all the workers without exception and all the Madrid fans around the world."

Mendes added: "If that happens, it will be just a new phase and a new challenge in his brilliant career."
