The Championship side have come up with the best offer for the Welsh youngster ahead of a host of other sides in the English second tier.

Rangers also fancied their chances of convincing Wilson to move north of the border and Scottish champions Celtic were monitoring his situation.

Wilson, 21, was pulled out of Liverpool’s pre-season game at Bury yesterday as they prepare to finalise the move to the Rams.

Liverpool are happy for Wilson to play in the Championship for a leading contender and under new boss Lampard – despite the lure of Gerrard or even Brendan Rodgers.
