Roma wanted to give Chelsea time to start a bidding war with their Premier League rivals.

But Liverpool are so keen to get the deal done they have increased their initial offer by £4.8m, which has been given the green light by the Italian side.

The Guardian claim the 25-year-old has already held talks with Jurgen Klopp over a move and the German boss has convinced him to join the Anfield club.

Roma were aware that Chelsea were eyeing Alisson as a potential replacement for Thibaut Courtois but the Blues still haven't lodged an official bid.

They have therefore sanctioned Alisson's move to Liverpool now his asking price has been met.

Klopp believes the Brazil No1 is the ideal man to make his first choice at Anfield and finally solve the position that has been causing him problems since he took charge.

After two years switching between Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius, he has accepted neither are up the to standard needed if Liverpool are to seriously challenge for the Premier League.

But Chelsea's need is just as great, with Belgian Courtois likely to be heading to Real Madrid this summer to avoid him running out the remaining year on his contract.

They are understood to be willing to sanction the sale of Courtois for around £35m once they have found a suitable replacement.

The prospect of Chelsea losing star player Eden Hazard this summer and uncertainty over the strength of their squad is also something that is seen as a concern compared to Liverpool's settled plans.
