CHELSEA and Manchester United are set to go head-to-head for Arturo Vidal, according to reports in Germany.
claims Bayern Munich are willing to sell the Chilean star, who has been linked with the Premier League duo for a number of years.
United missed out on Vidal, now 31, when he joined the German giants from Juventus three seasons ago, while Chelsea have failed in a number of enquiries for the combative midfielder in recent years.
And each could now reignite their interest with new Bayern boss Niko Kovac looking to clear out some older members of his squad.
It is reported that Vidal – who has won seven consecutive league titles in Germany and Italy - could be available for just £31million.
That price-tag could tempt new Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri, who admitted his midfield ranks are “lacking in quality” during his Stamford Bridge unveiling this week.
Tiemoue Bakayoko, Danny Drinkwater and Ross Barkley have all struggled in West London since making big-money moves.
And despite the arrival of £53m playmaker Jorginho from old club Napoli, Sarri remains keen to make further additions.
While Jose Mourinho is also a long-standing admirer of Vidal and could see the 100-cap star as an ideal stand-in for Paul Pogba, with the World Cup winners’ Old Trafford future still up in the air.
Vidal has recently resumed light training after minor surgery on his troublesome knee, but is expected to be fit in time for the new season.
