Tottenham new stadium: Twitter jokes Spurs have built a giant toilet seat as latest pictures are released
Billion-pound project given kicking on social media as fans spot unfortunate likeness in overhead profile
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR's new stadium could cost them a BILLION pounds and will be a month late for the new season - but at least it is a stunning triumph of modern architecture.
Or rather, not, as some fans on Twitter pointed out as the club released the latest images of the 62,000-seat ground, which replaces their old White Hart Lane.
The unfortunate angle used for one of the photos appears to show the ground looking in an unflattering light, and in fact a lot like a toilet seat.
Fans were quick to point out the likeness, howling as the club rush to get the project complete for September 15, when they are due to make their first appearance there.
By that date, the stadium should have its 600-tonne roof completed, which has been one of many major expenses pushing the total cost up from its initial £400million target to almost a BILLION pounds.
Extra-spacious changing rooms and sliding pitches, fit for the NFL games to be hosted at the stadium, alongside state-of-the-art conference facilities are also thought to be bumping up the outlay.
In the 17,500-seat South Stand, fans will be treated to the two largest LED screens in Western Europe, each measuring 325 square metres in size.
The club were left red-faced in June when 15,000 seats had to be stripped out and re-ordered after they found the paint on them was missing a pigment allowing them to survive bad weather.
And they were also forced to apply for special permission to play their first few Premier League games away from the stadium in 2018/19 as the target for the opening day was missed.
Covering the rapidly-swelling cost should be aided by a combination of sponsorship deals and the additional revenue gained from adding 26,000 seats to the old White Hart Lane's capacity.

Those extra seats could add as much as £28m to the club's incomings each season, which should help the club continue to attract big names while paying for the new ground.
Spurs fans are becoming increasingly frustrated with the club's lack of transfer action this summer, remaining just one of two Premier League clubs yet to make a signing.
In true Twitter style, fans were keen not to let the club off the hook with the stadium pictures, replying with their anger at seeing a lack of deals done.
Tottenham have been linked with a deal for winger Jack Grealish, although their hesitation over paying Aston Villa's £40m asking price may prove costly as the Midlands club look set for a cash injection from new owners.
