MARSEILLE could be banned from European competitions unless their fans start behaving.
That’s the warning Uefa have issued the French side following a string of problems.
Marseille came close to glory in the Europa League last campaign but were defeated in the final by Atletico Madrid.
But they will have to play their next European home game behind closed doors and have been hit with an £88,774 fine by the governing body.
Further sanctions may also include a partial closure of their Stade Velofrome stadium.
Premier League giants Liverpool have also been sanctioned today by Uefa with a £7,101 fine for their supporters’ conduct during the Champions League clash with Roma.
The Reds, who went on to reach the final, were charged after fans let off fireworks and throw objects and for further crowd disturbances in the semi-final first-leg win at Anfield on April 24.
Ligue 1 Marseille were also punished for the same offences in addition to acts of damage and for kicking off late during the games against RB Leipzig and FC Salzburg.
Uefa have also ordered them to contact rivals Lyon, whose stadium held the Europa League final, to arrange payment for the damage caused by their supporters.
Marseille, who have qualified for this season’s Europa League, were told by Uefa their “exclusion from Uefa competition is deferred for a probationary period of two years”.
