Tottenham’s first game at new stadium to be Under-23 clash in test match against Brighton

TOTTENHAM have announced the first ever match to be played at their new stadium will be an under-23 game against Brighton.

Workers are busy putting the finishing touches to the £850million ground in time to be able to host Premier League games by September.

And they will now have to be finished within a month, with the Spurs development squad taking on the Seagulls on August 27.

Tottenham need to get safety clearance before staging competitive matches at the state of the art 62,062-capacity ground, built on the site of their old White Hart Lane home.

That involves staging two test events with a limited capacity to satisfy the local council and safety officials.

The first of those is the under-23 match against Brighton, before a Tottenham Legends side takes on Bayern Munich Legends on August 27.

It is anticipated both will come through without issue, and Spurs will then be free to play their first ever Premier League match at their new home against Liverpool on September 15.

Spurs want as many supporters as possible to attend the games in order to get used to their new surrounds to ensure the build-up to the Liverpool match is not marred by problems with fans entering the venue.

But the Brighton match will be played on the same Bank Holiday Monday when Mauricio Pochettino's side face Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Although the test event kicks-off at 2pm, it still means the 2,000 fans hoping to make the trip to watch the United game will be travelling at the time it is being played.

Tottenham have slashed the price of tickets for the event to £5 for adults and just £1 for minors and pensioners.

The Legends game the following Saturday will see prices rise to £10, although some of that money will go to chosen charities.
