MISBEHAVING managers will be shown yellow and red cards this season in an attempt to crackdown on touchline behaviour.

The new rules - designed by The International FA Board (IFAB) - will be used in the Championship all the way down to the National League.

accumulated 59 yellow cards during his playing days in the top-flight as well as being sent off twice, but it remains to be seen how he controls himself on the touchline.

Four yellow cards will result in a one-match ban - with cautions being shown for time wasting, throwing or kicking objects, entering the opponents' technical area and gesturing for cards to be shown.

While a manager will receive a red card for being shown a second yellow, or for violent conduct, spiting, physical or aggressive behaviour and entering the field to confront officials.

Former Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg believes the trial can be a huge success in a bid to clamp down on persistent offenders.

The 43-year-old said: "Referees already have the power to dismiss managers or warn them, but the trial of using red and yellow cards will improve transparency - everyone in the stadium or watching at home will know exactly what is happening.

"Given the pressure of being a manager and the emotions it provokes during a game, I'm not sure this will act as a major deterrent. Players, for example, still protest to referees and put pressure on them, even though they can be cautioned for dissent.

"But it will be very interesting to note the results - especially if managers start being nice and show more respect to referees all of a sudden!"
