Foxes boss Claude Puel is trying to put together a deal to bring the Portugal international to the King Power Stadium ahead of the new season.

Inter will allow Mario to leave for £25million after signing Radja Nainggolan, with a season-long loan move also a possibility.

During his time at West Ham, where the Euro 2016 winner played 14 times in the second half of the season, the midfielder insisted he did not want to return to the Serie A.

Instead, Mario hinted at extending his stay in the Premier League, following his temporary spell at the Hammers.

After he shone in the English top flight, West Ham are keen to see the Portugal ace return.

But Leicester want to bolster their midfield options further, having already seen James Maddison arrive from Norwich.

With Everton losing Wayne Rooney and Davy Klaassen already this summer, Mario is not short of options in England.
