BURNLEY have completed the signing of Middlesbrough defender Ben Gibson on a four-year deal.

Boss Sean Dyche has finally managed to get his first signing over the line in a frustrating transfer window for the Clarets.

Gibson, 25, becomes the club's joint most expensive ever signing - equalling the £15million paid to Leeds for striker Chris Wood.

The former England Under-21 defender was at Turf Moor for Burnley's friendly against Espanyol as he prepares to return to the top flight following Boro's relegation two years ago.

Gibson, who is the nephew of Middlesbrough chairman Steve, had previously been linked with moves to Tottenham and Southampton.

He sacrificed a potential big-money move to help his hometown team bounce back to the Prem at the first attempt.

Sean Dyche says ‘very, very big offers’ would be needed for Burnley to lose any players in the upcoming transfer window

Unfortunately for the ex-Tranmere, Plymouth and York loanee that dream ended on Tuesday with Boro’s defeat to Aston Villa in the play-offs.

Burnley will have press ahead in a bid to land England international Joe Hart, as revealed exclusively by The Sun.

The Man City outcast headed for a medical at Turf Moor on Friday with a view to a permanent £4m deal.

Dyche has been desperate to bring in a new goalkeeper - with both Nick Pope and Tom Heaton injured.
